Education is key to raising awareness about the law relating to young people and alcohol/tobacco and the impact of underage usage on individuals health and society
Readings Community Alcohol Partnership Officer (CAP) Tessa Brunsden works across the Borough within the Council alongside its multi-agency partners, looking at alternative ways of reducing underage drinking and the resultant anti-social behaviour and impacts on health, by way of education and advice.
Another responsibility of the CAP role is to make up part of the West Tobacco Control Alliance Team, which is led by West Berkshires Crime Prevention and Health Lead Officer; Caroline Stevenson. The Alliance Team is made up of multi-agency partners to include Wokingham Council. Berkshire West Tobacco control provides a coordinated and comprehensive approach to reducing the local prevalence of smoking.
Both roles work in Partnership with; local retailers & Licensees, Trading Standards, the Police, Public Health and other Health services, education providers and other local stakeholders to look at alternative ways of reducing underage drinking and the resultant anti-social behaviours and impact on Health associated with under aged drinking.
