Teenage Parent Learning Programme

Article Image

Support for pregnant teenagers and teenage parents to encourage, motivate and enable them to participate in the education and training provided locally.

The most recent guidance of the education of school age parents was outlined in a DfES Guidance Circular in 2001. It clarifies that Pregnancy and parenthood at an early age present major challenges in the lives of young people that can potentially affect their chances of achieving the best outcomes in their lives. Local Education Authority responsibilities for Teenage Parents include a statutory duty to provide suitable education for all pupils for whom they are responsible, including pupils of compulsory school age who become parents. We deliver this programme because we are aware of the poorer outcomes that teenage parents can experience
